iPhone Deleted Your Contacts?

I've set myself on a mission. Ever since I started searching Twitter for "iPhone deleted", I've noticed a higher and higher occurrence of tweets like "My iPhone deleted my contacts! Ugh!" (Replace ugh with an expletive.) So, my mission is clear: figure out why this is happening!

If you came across this blog post because your iPhone or iPad contacts just got erased, I have two messages for you!

1) Please check out Decipher Contact Browser if you want to try to recover your contacts. There's a free trial so you can see if you have any backups with the contacts.

2) Please post a comment letting us know the circumstances when your contacts were deleted. Writing an email? App you were using crashed? Absolutely nothing with the phone locked?

Let us know! We want to get to the bottom of this!

    1. Hi Anne!

Your original post accidentally was removed (oops!) but I managed to save it:

Hey, I appreciate your blog. I need some help, I was trying to update my iPhone 4. It downloaded the update, veryfied it, and restarted so it could install. It got to about 20%, then it sat at 20% for 30 mins, the bar dissappeared and has been at the Apple logo for hours now without the spinning wheel. I need to know if I'm screwed or if there is another way other than restoring? thanks!

I assume that you've gotten the problem taken care of already, but for others in the same boat: If the bar has disappeared, and you just have the apple logo, the phone should just be starting up. If it's stuck there for any significant period of time, you'll likely need to plug the phone into your computer and connect to it through iTunes.

I think this thread should be helpful!
