How to Delete Those Pesky Facebook Contacts from Your iPhone

It seemed like a really good idea at the time -- integrate Facebook into your contacts so you have everyone's birthday and contact info! Other good things! Except I don't want to email my friends at their @facebook email address, and my contacts app is now a giant trash heap.

So how do you remove the Facebook contacts from your iPhone once you've added them?

  • Open the Settings app and scroll down to Facebook (you may need to reinstall the app for a moment if you've deleted it.)
  • Change the "Contacts" setting to off.

  • If you no longer want to be notified about Facebook events, you can also turn off the calendar.

Turning off the contacts will also remove all of the Facebook friend birthdays from your calendar, since those we're integrated from the contacts.

What if I don't really want to delete the Facebook contacts, but I don't like seeing them?

In your Contacts app, press the "Groups" button in the upper right corner. In the Groups list, you can uncheck the Facebook contacts group so that the contacts will be hidden in your Contacts app for now.
