If you sync to your computer (and you're near your computer):
- In iTunes, when you click on your device on the left-hand side (under Devices), you should see the device capacity and how it's allocated. This may help you figure out what of the options below may get you the space you need.
- You could try installing iOS7 the old-fashioned way: via iTunes on your computer. This way you'll download the update package on your computer, rather than needing the space on your device for it. You may still need to free up space for the install process itself, but you should need less space available than if you're downloading the upgrade installer itself.
- While you're here, let's make sure all of the stuff you downloaded through the iTunes store is saved to your computer... Right-click on your phone under "Devices" on the left and select "Transfer Purchases".
- Look at your sync settings and temporarily not sync some stuff. Disable music, photos, TV, or movies syncing if they're on. Try the update again, and if it goes through, you can turn back on syncing to get your stuff back.
- Save your camera roll and clean it out! If you're on a Mac, you probably use iPhoto or Aperture to import photos. On Windows you may use a program, or just look at your phone in Explorer as a camera. Either way, those photos on your camera roll should be saved just in case before you upgrade, and they're probably taking a lot of space! Import them to your computer :)!
- Open Settings on your phone and go to General --> Usage. After a moment of scanning, you should see a list of the top disk-hogs on your device. If it's music, video, or books, you may want to look at the above instructions about removing your media syncing for a few minutes.
- It's time to ask some tough questions about your apps. Are there apps you can delete? For those top storers in Settings, do any of them have documents stored within them that you don't need?
We'd love to hear if any of these suggestions or helpful, or we'll be watching for comments with further questions or ideas. Happy iOS7 day!!
